It's still going to be another hard match. Don't forget they beat us 3-0 last season

Re: Ilkeston Town v Belper United (Tue23 Jul, ko 7 30pm) Live Updates

It's matchday again as we take on Belper United in our sixth preseason friendly. After the confidence-boosting wins against Eastwood, Airbus UK and Pinxton we have certainly come crashing back to earth with two bruising defeats against Notts County and Solihull Moors. Too many games against higher calibre teams can damage morale and so I think Lee Fowler was right to replace tonight's original opponents, AFC Telford with a team at a similar level to ourselves.  Belper United are a decent team and beat us last season in the Derbyshire Senior Cup. With two more difficult friendlies to come against Basford and Grantham, this is our chance to regain some confidence. Pre-season results don't usually matter but a return to winning ways is needed tonight.
Lee Fowler must now be getting an idea of the players he wants to be in his squad and tonight's match should give the players a better opportunity to stake a claim.
Kickoff is 7 30 pm.  Updates as usual during the game.

Re: Ilkeston Town v Belper United (Tue23 Jul, ko 7 30pm) Live Updates

I think our starting line up against Solihull will not be far off our starting line up in the League.  I would like to see Billy Bennett back in the team and maybe a few more attacking options but overall it is not looking too bad. I thought Brandon Ganley and Mitch Robinson are excellent signings and Courtney Richards started to make his mark on Saturday. There were a few triallists who only got a few minutes on Saturday so we need to see what they can do in the next three Pre season games.

Tom Marshall has to head out a fierce cross for a corner.  Good run by Reco takes him to within six yards of the goal but keeper gets into the path of  his close range shot.  Drinks break after only 15 minutes.

Walker tests Belper keeper Mark Rathbone at his near post. Good defending by Belper but two of their players have clashed heads.  They're both ok.  Belper free kick is almost turned in.  GOAL for Belper, header by Adam Dring.
0-1   32 minutes

Walker wins a corner. Chance for Ryan Baker but he miscontrols.  Mitch Robinson header from Fabian Smith's free kick is well saved by Rathbone.      0-1    40 minutes

Great individual goal by Reco     1-1     58 minutes
Storming run down the left flank by Reco. He cuts inside at speed and slams the ball past Rathbone.

Good effort by Reeves but keeper gets behind it. Ilkeston are now looking for a second goal with Reco pulling the strings. Good Belper attack stems the tide.  Belper keeper concedes a corner. It's cleared.   Good play by Richards but his shot is too tame.        1-1     64 minutes

Good headed clearance by Tom Curtis then good Jamie Walker header is just off target. Bad foul on Fabian Smith. Belper's Ash Dhinsa is booked for the offence.  Soon after, the ref gives a penalty to Ilkeston when Alex Marshall is sent sprawling.   Smith to take but Rathbone turns it round the post. Good save.
still 1-1   70 minutes.  Game is getting lively now

Brilliant save by Rathbone from Reeves who was racing towards goal. Belper are still in the game and looking dangerous going forward. Terrific effort by Reco just wide. Belper can't cope with him.    1-1    81 minutes

GOAL by Elliott Reeves on 83 minutes.  Excellent shot into the corner of the net.  2-1.
Another Ilkeston penalty.  A bit generous in my opinion following Rathbone's coming together with Alex Marshall.  Marshall takes the penalty and scores     3-1   86 minutes

Two late strikes but the score now reflects Ilkeston's dominance. It's almost time.

How their keeper in the 1st half and how their number 8 stopped on the pitch is beyond me. Both tackles were worst than mr McDonald's on Saturday. 1st half we were unlucky to go 1 nil down it was against the run of play.

New players 4,9,10,11 all played well which I would keep.

Still need a RB,LB,CH and a goalkeeper. I have watch both of them and neither do it for me.

Alex -
I definitely agree regarding Courtney Richards (No 4). He has looked very good in the last two matches.
If you are saying you are not impressed with goalkeepers Richard Stainsby and Brandon Ganley then I have to disagree. Stainsby was outstanding against Airbus UK. He is a good stopper and very vocal and dominant. I also rate Ganley who was Shepshed's regular keeper last season (49 starts and voted opposition man of the match 5 times).

Re: Ilkeston Town v Belper United (Tue23 Jul, ko 7 30pm) Live Updates

Match Report :
Tue 23rd July 2019
Ilkeston Town  3  Belper United  1
Two late goals gave Ilkeston the win their performance deserved but they had to come from behind on a very warm evening. Adam Dring gave Belper a first half lead with a fine header and despite Ilkeston’s dominance, they held on until half time. Ilkeston went close on several occasions before Dring’s opener. Belper keeper, Mark Rathbone did well to stop Reco Fyfe’s advance and shot on 15 minutes. A shot by Courtney Richards was blocked by a defender and Jamie Walker was twice denied by Rathbone. Just before half time Mitch Robinson headed goalwards from Fabian Smith’s free kick but Rathbone again pulled off a fine save. The second half saw Ilkeston continue to press and the equaliser finally came on 58 minutes. It was an outstanding individual goal by Reco Fyfe who raced down the left flank, cut inside and fired home an unstoppable shot. Belper’s Ash Dhinsa was booked for a challenge on Smith and soon afterwards Ilkeston were awarded a penalty after Alex Marshall was sent sprawling. Smith took the kick but his effort was turned round the post by Rathbone.  Fyfe made another excellent run down the left but his cross was just too high for Elliot Reeves. Fyfe was running riot by now and he was next to go close with a scorcher that was just wide. Reeves was denied by another fine Rathbone save but on 83 minutes he put Ilkeston ahead with an excellent finish into the bottom corner. Two minutes later Ilkeston were awarded a second penalty and this time they scored through Alex Marshall to make it 3-1. Ilkeston nearly scored again in added time when a cracking Courtney Richards first timer was saved by the overworked  Rathbone.
