FA Cup : Loughborough Univ. v Ilkeston Town ; Live Updates

It seems a little strange to be playing an FA Cup tie as our first competitive game but it's very important that we get off to a good start which gives us a boost of confidence for the season ahead. A decent run in the Cup would provide the Club with a good revenue stream and a win against Loughborough would earn us £2250 prize money with the chance of more to come. It won't be easy and there definitely won't be a repeat of last season's final game score. The Scholars usually start the season well and in their last pre-season friendly on Saturday, they beat Holbeach United by 5-0. (Holbeach recently drew 2-2 with Stamford.)
There is uncertainty about who will be in our team due to the change of manager and the late flurry of signings, some of which have not been announced. It isn't ideal to be going into the game with a team which includes some players who have not played together but if they're good enough they'll pull through and get us a result.

Re: FA Cup : Loughborough Univ. v Ilkeston Town ; Live Updates

Our first competitive game of the new season is nearly here. In the last game of last season, we took several hundred fans to Loughborough and had a brilliant never to be forgotten day. Tomorrow I expect around 200 fans to make the journey to Loughborough Dynamo's ground. It's important for any team to get off to a good start. It won't be easy but we'll be looking to win. It's Mark Clifford's first game in charge and there will be debuts for some of our players.
If you can't get to the game, follow the updates here. The all-important team news should be available around 2 30.

Despite the loss of Craig Lamont and Harry Worgan, the Ilkeston Town FC media team will be in action this afternoon. A massive thank you to the people who have stepped up to help.

It's 25 minutes to kick off. Loughborough Dynamo's ground is nice and the pitch looks good . We've had a good downpour but the sun is now shining and the players of both teams are warming up

Re: FA Cup : Loughborough Univ. v Ilkeston Town ; Live Updates

Mason Lee's rasping shot is just too high following more good play by Wakefield. That was Ilkeston's best effort so far. Lavell is injured but he appears to have recovered.       0-0    25 minutes

Almost an Ilkeston equaliser following goal line scramble. Ilkeston were appealing for the ball being over the line but the linesman and referee are not convinced.     0-1     36 minutes

Good run by Ferrinho for Loughboro. Ilkeston letting themselves down with poor passing.  Loughboro are now on top. Good block by Green prevents a 3rd Loughboro goal.  Another Penalty to Loughboro.  Seemed very harsh. and its 3-0.  Akpobire again 59 minutes
Alex Marshall lost the ball and then was penalised when trying to make up for his error.

That's full time. Ilkeston are out of the FA Cup. Tom Marshall's rash challenge resulting in a red card  has proved to be decisive.

Re: FA Cup : Loughborough Univ. v Ilkeston Town ; Live Updates

After dominating the first 40 minutes of the game Ilkeston crashed out of the FA Cup at the first hurdle. Things started to go wrong when the Scholars took the lead on 33 minutes against the run of play with a penalty and three minutes later Ilkeston were denied what they thought was an equaliser when the ball appeared to have crossed the Loughborough goal line. Two minutes before half time Tom Marshall was dismissed for a bad challenge and things then went from bad to worse when in first half added time Loughborough scored again. With Loughborough having the extra man, it was really difficult for Ilkeston to turn the game around. Their task became insurmountable on 59 minutes when Loughborough were awarded a second penalty which seemed rather harsh on Alex Marshall whose opponent appeared to go down very easily. Marshall pulled one back for Ilkeston on 65 minutes but Loughborough were able to see out the game comfortably. Full marks to the Scholars for a commanding second half performance.

Re: FA Cup : Loughborough Univ. v Ilkeston Town ; Live Updates

Thought we were well on top but not creating the final product . A complete mis-kick by their winger got him past Green to create their first penno. A complete wild challenge by Tom ( why Tom their player was on the goal line just about there was no need ) got himself sent off . Then we were chasing game even more . Then it got worse with the goal that never was . The ball rolled over the line with keeper pushing it back out on the floor . Put it this way his whole body was over the line only his feet being on the line . But no the linesman just he couldn't see the ball so didn't give it. Even if he couldn't see it he could the keepers body fully over the line .... Come on !
Two nil down and that's it for me as uni got stronger making the man advantage count.
From an Ilson corner yes our corner instead of putting the ball over with the wind behind you , no we passed it back resulting uni chasing us down creating which I thought was a bit jammy penno.
Three nil looking a bit lost now we managed to pull one back .
I thought the result was terrible but that's nothing compared to the poor fan who's car got really damaged by a falling tree branch . Gutted for the fan .

Re: FA Cup : Loughborough Univ. v Ilkeston Town ; Live Updates

I agree with you Kev about Ilkeston's "goal that never was". I was behind the goal so not perfectly positioned but the ball certainly looked well over the line. After the game, I spoke to some unbiased people who said they were level with the goal line and thought it was at least two feet over the line. So it looks like Loughborough got away with one. I'm not blaming the officials. If they didn't clearly see that it had crossed the line, then they can't give a goal and it's too much to expect honesty from the Loughborough keeper. Had the goal been given the game may have had a different outcome. Tom Marshall's red card for a challenge he didn't need to make proved to be Ilkeston's undoing.
