Ilkeston Town v Cleethorpes Town (Sat 17 Aug) Live Updates

Following last season's promotion and a turbulant pre-season, the first league match of the 2019-20 season in the Northern Premier is here at last and it's really difficult to predict what might happen. We now have a new management team in Mark Clifford and Shaun Harrad and many new players, some having only just arrived this week. Cleethorpes must be favourites but from originally looking like certain losers Ilkeston now have a much stronger looking squad and possibly capable of springing a major surprise. Of course, throwing a bunch of new players together and hoping they gel immediately is wishful thinking and definitely risky. The pitch is going to be very wet after all the rain and that is going to be another factor which could affect the result. Who will adapt better to the conditions? All of our new players will be well motivated for this fixture and will be determined to impress from the outset. The first goal of the game could be vital and if it should go our way, then with our loud and loyal fans behind us, we just might have a chance.
Back to reality, most unbiased Northern Premier League followers will see this match as a comfortable away win.
Kick off is 3 pm, Team news around 2 30 pm. If you can't make it, then you are welcome to follow the game's progress here. It's going to to be cracker.

Re: Ilkeston Town v Cleethorpes Town (Sat 17 Aug) Live Updates

I just its too much to ask of the new players to win this game . It will be a close match but I think Cleethorpes will win only because of the lack fitness and being together as a team . But by the looks of the players we have signed it looks really good . My only concern is the players budget , has stayed the same or is it going to far ? Plus are any of the players going to be contract ?
But really I do hope we can get the win and all the real ale goes well …

Re: Ilkeston Town v Cleethorpes Town (Sat 17 Aug) Live Updates

If you possibly can, get yourself down to the New Manor Ground for today's new season opener. The sun is shining and it will be like a trip to the seaside but without the sea. Please take the time to welcome our visitors from Cleethorpes. Come and enjoy the special atmosphere behind the clocktower end goal. It's great entertainment both on and off the field. If you'd prefer to sit comfortably, then come into the Clocktower stand for a perfect view at no extra charge. Make friends and enjoy your visit. It's the non-league match of the day. You can re-live the game later by reading the WhiteBall match updates here.

Re: Ilkeston Town v Cleethorpes Town (Sat 17 Aug) Live Updates

what a chance for Cleethorpes by Flett but we survive. Brill cross by Green is met by Alex's head and its Inches wide. It looked a certain net rippler. So close.  This game can go either way.  Ilkeston close again. Ball hit's underside of bar and keeper drops on it on the goal line. So close again.       0-0   85 minutes

Well I missed the first half due to serving the real ales . But I could wait to get out in the second when the ales ran out. Got into the singing straight away supporting the players. What s shift they put in , really enjoyed this nil nil draw . Looks very promising for the season.

Re: Ilkeston Town v Cleethorpes Town (Sat 17 Aug) Live Updates

What a difference a week makes. The new players Dean Freeman and Tyreece Robinson were superb at the back as were Lavell and Conor. Ross Durrant was a contender for man of the match and Fabian, Jermain Hollis and Reco were excellent in midfield. It was difficult for the forwards against a good Cleethorpes defence but Shaun Harrad did enough to suggest that he is going to score goals.

Re: Ilkeston Town v Cleethorpes Town (Sat 17 Aug) Live Updates

Sat 17th August 2019
BETVICTOR Northern Premier League, South East Division
Ilkeston Town  0  Cleethorpes Town  0
Ilkeston bounced back from their disappointing FA Cup defeat with a massively improved performance against title favourites Cleethorpes Town. Despite being goalless, the game lived up to expectations with heroic performances by both keepers. Cleethorpes started the stronger and looked dangerous when going forward but Ilkeston defenders Tyreece Robinson and Dean Freeman playing together for the first time were equally impressive. Ben Davies was closest to opening the scoring with a powerful effort for the visitors on 12 minutes which was just wide and Brody Robertson brought a fine save from Ross Durrant ten minutes later. Cleethorpes keeper Theo Richardson was forced make an instinctive double save from a Shaun Harrad header and a Mason Lee follow-up while at the other end a terrific effort by Jon Oglesby curled just the wrong side of the post. Cleethorpes edged the first half and continued to press after the restart. They nearly took the lead on 52 minutes when Ross Durrant pulled off an amazing point-blank save from Scott Vernon. Dean Freeman then went close with a header for Ilkeston and Alex Flett had an opportunity for Cleethorpes but Freeman blocked his shot on the line. Halfway through the second half Ilkeston started to get on top with Reco Fyfe becoming more and more influential. Following one of their best moves, Conor Green’s superb cross on the run was headed narrowly wide by Alex Marshall. Three minutes later Harrad’s powerful header crashed against the underside of the bar before keeper Richardson managed to smother it on the line. Harrad then headed narrowly wide at the near post as Ilkeston’s big finish threatened to produce a winner. It almost came in added time when Alex Marshall burst free and was one on one with Richardson but the keeper produced an outstanding save to deny Ilkeston the win.
