Tomorrow we travel to Bedworth (between Nuneaton and Coventry) to play Bedworth United in the FA Trophy. Bedworth play on an artificial pitch so the game will go ahead despite all the rain.  If you are not going then you may follow the live updates here.

Re: FA Trophy : Sat 12th Oct '19 Bedworth Utd v Ilkeston : Live Updates

We played Bedworth United in 1997 in front of 1084 fans. It was a game we won 3-1 with goals from Dean Fearon two and Paul Eshelby. The larger than average crowd was probably down to the fact that Ilkeston had played Scunthorpe United the week before in the FA Cup second Round and had gained a famous 1-1 draw in front of 4817 fans. The replay was played at the NMG four days after the Bedworth game and tickets for the all ticket cup tie were on sale during the game. Ilkeston lost the replay 1-2 in front of 2109 fans with Christian Moore getting Ilkeston's consolation goal. Ironically the Robins played two more games before the turn of the year, away against Evesham United and Corby Town, infront of a grand total 271 fans as oppose to the 8010 who had watched their first three games of December 1997. Heady Days!

Re: FA Trophy : Sat 12th Oct '19 Bedworth Utd v Ilkeston : Live Updates

The first time Ilkeston Town played Bedworth United in a cup game was in September 1971 when the two teams met in the FA Cup. Ilkeston had made an excellent start to the first ever season in the Southern League losing only one of their first seven games and winning the other six. However Bedworth were to be a sterner test and won the tie 2-1.
Naylor scored Ilkeston's goal and the line up was:- Pigott, Atkinson, Beresford, Stainwright, Fallon, Gulson, Patrick, Rann, Naylor, Brown and Buckley.
Kevin Fallon went on to play in New Zealand and ended up coaching the Kiwis national team that got to the 1982 World Cup. Steve Buckley joined Luton Town and then became a legend at Derby County. Roger Rann came from Arnold Town and wrote a number of excellent books on football in Arnold.
Strangely Ilkeston's early season form evaporated after this defeat and they struggled for the next month.
Bedworth United were defeated by Sutton Town in the next round of the FA Cup after a replay.

A preliminary round win today against Bedworth United would secure prize money of £2250 with a promise of more to come from future rounds. Below is a summary of FA Trophy prize money available.

The Buildbase FA Trophy    -    Season 2019-20
Payments made from The FA's prize fund :
Extra preliminary round: Winners receive £1,500, losers receive £500

Re: FA Trophy : Sat 12th Oct '19 Bedworth Utd v Ilkeston : Live Updates

Did you know that when Tom Fielding came on at Sheffield FC he became the 66th player to play for Ilkeston Town since they reformed in 2017. I hope the 67th players can make a similar impact to Tom.

Re: FA Trophy : Sat 12th Oct '19 Bedworth Utd v Ilkeston : Live Updates

It's half an hour to kickoff. Apparently Bedworth have picked up 7 points from their last 3 matches so they are feeling quietly confident. The artificial pitch looks ok so it looks like being a competitive match.

Re: FA Trophy : Sat 12th Oct '19 Bedworth Utd v Ilkeston : Live Updates

It's appoaching kickoff and it's a nice view for the back row of the stand. Bedworth normally get gates of around 200. Apparently Nick Hawkins was manager here for about six weeks.

The teams are about to enter the pitch. Here they come. They're lined up for handshakes. We're about to start. Ilkeston to kick off.
And we're off ......

Ilkeston dominating the early possession. Fielding is looking lively from the start.    GOAL for Bedworth from their first attack.    0-1    3 minutes.         Khaellem Bailey-Nicholls taps in the loose ball from a couple of yards out..

That was a shock. Bastos looked to be fouled but nothing given.  Then Bastos flagged offside when through -  borderline .

Robertson told off for showing dissent after He's penalised.   Bedworth so close to a second goal, Great save by Durrant.    It's half time and Ilkeston trail by a single goal.

half time  :  Bedworth United  1  Ilkeston Town  0

Ilkeston have been the better side so far but it's goals that count.

Harrad wrestled to the ground.  Ref gives Bedworth a free kick when the cross comes in.  Blackmore is booked.  Free kick to Bedworth wide right 10 yards in from corner flag.  Cross is headed over by Bedworth forward. Strange offside decision against Ilkeston.     0-1      51 minutes
