Re: Ilkeston v New Mills (Derbyshire Senior Cup) Live Updates

Ilkeston are attacking the car park end.  Walker's cross is too high for Orlando-Young. Counter attack by New Mills is broken up by Smith. Good run by Webb but he can't get past Campbell-Gordon.      0-0     14 minutes

Good close range save by Stainsby. Fee kick to New Mills 30 yards out. McKnight takes but his shot is too high. Ilkeston maybe slightly on top possession wise but not much in it.              0-0        27 minutes

Re: Ilkeston v New Mills (Derbyshire Senior Cup) Live Updates

Tom Marshall yellow for a body block. Chance for Lee but he scuffs i wide. No shots on target yet by Ilkeston. Most of New Mills attacks have been down the right flank. It's half time and New Mills deserve to be level.

GOAL  New Mills Free kick driven though the crowded goalmouth low into the corner of the net by Darren McKnight on 52 minutes             0-1
Looked saveable but it looked like Stainsby didn't see it until it was too late. Mason Lee replaced by Shaun Harrad

Re: Ilkeston v New Mills (Derbyshire Senior Cup) Live Updates

Orlando Young Shot deflected for a corner. Every single New Mills player is in their own six yard box to defend the corner. Over it comes and it's gone into the goal.  Ilkeston have one back  Think it was Alex Marshall.     1-2     90+3 minutes

Re: Ilkeston v New Mills (Derbyshire Senior Cup) Live Updates

Ilkeston were not good enough in the first half. They did better in the second half but were unable to penetrate a a good New Mills defence. Forth's brilliant save from Tom Marshall's header and a goal line clearance were the nearest Ilkeston came to scoring until the Alex Marshall goal which came too late. Walker was guilty of too many long shots that were high wide and handsome but at least he was having a go. It was a  far cry from Saturday's performance and disappointing to go out of another Cup competition at the first hurdle.

Re: Ilkeston v New Mills (Derbyshire Senior Cup) Live Updates

Ilkeston Town  1  New Mills  2
Ilkeston’s anticipated routine passage into the next round of the Derbyshire Senior Cup failed to materialise against their lower league opposition. The Robins started slowly and there was little to cheer early on and it was New Mills who probably edged a lack lustre first half. The Millers made the first chance with Elliot Cooke forcing Richard Stainsby to save. It took Ilkeston 20 minutes to produce their first decent effort when a Reco Fyfe shot struck the outside of the post. Nathan Webb was causing Ilkeston problems on the right and he created a chance for Cooke who fired over. Stainsby did well to save a close range effort by Darrhyl Mason while at the other end, Jamie Walker’s shot was deflected behind and Mason Lee scuffed a good opportunity wide.
New Mills went ahead seven minutes into the second half when Darren McKnight drove a free kick through the crowded goalmouth into the corner of the net. Stainsby got a hand to it but couldn’t keep it out. The goal sparked Ilkeston into action and Tom Marshall nearly equalised within two minutes but was denied by a fabulous reaction save from Dylan Forth. This was quickly followed by a Walker header which was cleared off the line by Benito Lowe with Forth stranded. Ilkeston continued to push forward in search of the equaliser that eluded them. Shaun Harrad glanced a header wide and Walker blazed over but New Mills were defending well and they threatened themselves with occasional counter attacks. It was from one of these that they nicked a second goal just before the 90 minutes were up through Nathan Webb. There was still time for an Ilkeston header to hit the bar before Alex Marshall finally pulled one back following a corner but by then it was too late and the underdogs were triumphant.

Match Report by New Mills :
ILKESTON TOWN 1-2 THE MILLERS
BY WEBSITE ADMINISTRATOR
The Millers cause upset in Derbyshire Senior Cup

Mike Norton and Dave Birch's Millers side produced one of the clubs finest performances in many years as they dumped Ilkeston Town out of the Derbyshire Senior Cup at the Third Round stage, in front of a partisan crowd at the New Manor Ground. With club Skipper Adam Jones announcing his retirement in the build up to the game, the Millers Joint-Bosses were forced into a defensive reshuffle, Benito Lowe slotting in at centre back alongside Harry Norris. Cheik Thiam took the number two jersey at right back, while the travelling Millers supporters were delighted by the surprise return of favourite Mason Fallon at left back. Darren McKnight took the captain's armband following Jones departure, and he took his place in central midfield alongside Nathan Webb and Alex Elliott. Elliott Cooke impressed on debut against Cammell Laird at weekend and he retained his place in attack, with Darrhyl Mason and Will Ozono. The Millers started brightly as it quickly became clear that they were not overawed by their opponents lofty position in the league table, two divisions further up the pyramid and they tore into attack from the outset. The game was barely a minute old when Cooke was presented with the first chance of the game. A long croft from the left found its way to Cooke at the far post and he forced a smart save from Richard Stainsby in the Ilkeston goal. On the 20 minute mark Cooke was presented with a further opportunity following fine work by Darryhl Mason, this time sending his effort into the side netting. Mason himself called Stainsby into action on 25 minutes, the keeper palming a fierce effort around the post. While the Millers were dominating possession and territory, the home side looked dangerous on the break and they went close on the half hour mark, a long range effort clipping the outside of Dylan Forth's post on its way wide. As half-time approached the Millers continued to threaten, McKnight twice going close, while the visitors were denied a penalty when Cheik Thiam appeared to be barged off the ball inside the area, but it remained goalless at the interval. The second half was just minutes old when the Millers took a deserved lead. Mason was crudely chopped down 30 yards from goal, and the impressive McKnight strode up and drove the resulting free-kick past Stainsby. Ilkeston responded well and had a chance to level on 55 minutes, Tom Marshall unmarked from a corner headed goalwards from close range, but Forth was equal to it, producing a quite wonderful save to keep his side in the lead. On the hour mark McKnight floated in a free-kick that Mason just failed to reach with the goal at his mercy, while at the other end Jamie Walker twice went close with headed efforts. A tiring, and booked, Mason Fallon was withdrawn from the action and replaced by Adam Cooper with fifteen minutes to go, and a long ball by Cooper into the left wing channel created another opportunity for the Millers almost immediately. Stainsby came to collect but was caught in possession by Will Ozono, however as the attacker cut inside to open up the goal he was crowded by defenders and was only able to shoot wide. With time running out Joe Riley and the old warhorse Mike Norton were introduced into the action for Cooke and Ozono, and the fresh legs were to ensure that the home side were unable to commit bodies into attack. As the game entered its final minutes the Millers doubled their lead, Nathan Webb, who had enjoyed a fine game, cut inside from the left and drove past Stainsby from 18 yards out. The Ilkeston response was immediate, a left wing corner forced home from close range by Alex Marshall to halve the deficit. The Millers thought that they had restored the two goal advantage just moments later, Norton prodding in from six yards after Stainsby spilled a shot, but the striker was adjudged offside by the Assistant Referee. The disallowed goal proved immaterial as the Millers hung onto their lead, the players and staff clapped off the pitch by the visiting supporters, whilst also receiving generous applause from those home fans who had stayed until the conclusion of the game. With a tricky game at Sandbach United on the horizon, Norton and Birch will be keen to see their side produce their cup form in league games and ensure that they begin to finally move up the league table.1. Dylan Forth, 2. Cheik Thiam, 3. Mason Fallon (Adam Cooper), 4. Harry Norris, 5. Benito Lowe, 6. Alex Elliott, 7. Nathan Webb, 8. Darren McKnight (c), 9. Darryhl Mason, 10. Will Ozono (Mike Norton), 11. Elliott Cooke (Joe Riley) Unused: Sam Watson
