S/East Preview: Tight Margins At The Top
At the top of the S/East table, Carlton Town host 19th-placed Market Drayton Town, who head into the fixture with confidence off the back of two consecutive wins against both Sheffield FC and Wisbech Town.Carlton Town sit top with 27 points just above Cleethorpes Town on 26, and are unbeaten in their last seven league fixtures, with their last defeat coming to Worksop Town early September.
The Owls, in second spot, have been boosted this week by double signings of Sam Topliss and Josh Lacey, who both return to the club for their second stints. They travel to Frickley Athletic, who sit 13th in the table and recently defeated Kidsgrove Athletic thanks to a hattrick from Jacob Hazel.
Ilkeston Town travel to Lincoln United in good spirit following their 5-0 victory over Loughborough Dynamo, with a hattrick inside the first 20 minutes for Alex Marshall, whilst Rod Orlango-Young also bagged a brace. Their opposition in the Whites sit 11th in the table and have had a few weeks of preparation due to postponements.
Kidsgrove Athletic and Loughborough Dynamo will face each other, with both sides being on the right and wrong side of 5-0 results this year respectively.
The Grove sit 16th in the table and recently announced the departure of Kyle Diskin, whilst Loughborough are a few places above in 12th.
Fifth-placed Sheffield FC, who recently departed with duo James Gregory and Karl Demidh, head into the weekend following a 1-0 victory over Sutton Coldfield Town thanks to a 90-minute effort from Adam Chapman to claim all three league points. The ‘World’s First Football Club’ host Glossop North End, who have drawn in their last two league fixtures.
Newcastle Town host Spalding United, who have just one win between them in their last five results.
Elsewhere, just outside of a play-off place, Stocksbridge Park Steels host Worksop town at the Look Local Stadium, whilst Belper Town travel to 18th-placed Wisbech Town.At the bottom end of the table, Sutton Coldfield Town are in the second qualifying round of the FA Trophy as they face Hednesford Town.
