Ilkeston Town v Stocksbridge Park Steels

There must be some doubt about whether this Saturday's home fixture with Stocksbridge will go ahead. If it does go ahead I can see it being a close game. Although Park Steels are 5 places below us ,we have quite similar records

                                     P  W  D  L   F    A    GD   Pts
Carlton Town             12  8  3  1   21  10   +11    27
Ilkeston                    15  7  5  3   29  17   +12    26
Cleethorpes Town     12  8  2  2   28  16   +12    26
Stamford                    11  7  2  2   26  13   +13    23
Leek Town                 10  7  2  1   21  10   +11    23
Sheffield                    13  7  1  5   32  24   +  8    22
Stocksbridge P S    13  6  4  3   24  18   +  6    22

We have both lost 3 league games and dropped too many points from drawn games. Home advantage may just give us the edge. Stocksbridge's results include draws against Leek Town and Stamford, teams we have lost against, so it seems that they can raise their game when necessary.

Re: Ilkeston Town v Stocksbridge Park Steels

The scheduled fixture list for this Saturday :

Leek Town v Loughborough Dynamo
Lincoln United v Belper Town
Market Drayton Town v Stamford

Re: Ilkeston Town v Stocksbridge Park Steels

Whitham does well but his shot is wide. Stocksbridge attack look more than capable of scoring. Jamie Walker shot turned over by keeper. Smith shot is just too high following the corner.        0-0     18 minutes

I fear the game is lost already. Ilkeston are trying to get back in the game but Stocksbridge defence are comfortable. Durrant saves well from Turner, nearly goal number 4.        0-3     33 minutes

Marshall brought down as he was making ground. Chance for Ilkeston from the free kick but keeper saves on the goal line. Whitham misses a sitter for Stocksbridge.   GOAL  Ruthven hat-trick.   0-4   40 minutes. so easy for Stocksbridge.

Durrant tips a long shot over. Durrant saves again. Ilkeston substitutions :  Harrad and Hollis replaced by Mason Lee and Will Davis. Campbell Gordon shot saved by Hall. Then Hall saves  brilliantly after shot takes a deflection.

Re: Ilkeston Town v Stocksbridge Park Steels

Ilkeston corner. No end product. Walker makes chance for Lee. and Lee appears to be  knocked off the ball but ref says no pen.   Not much going right for Ilkeston. Walker header only just wide.          1-5     81 minutes

Re: Ilkeston Town v Stocksbridge Park Steels

Ilkeston so close to a third. The ball hits a defender and goes out for corner. It's headed clear.  It's fair to say Ilkeston haven't had much luck this half.  Brilliant save at full stretch  by Hall from OrlandoYoung.   2-5     90 minutes

Re: Ilkeston Town v Stocksbridge Park Steels

Ilkeston Town  2   Stocksbridge Park Steels  5
Mark Clifford was far from happy with the way his team capitulated in the first half and apologised to fans after the game suggesting changes would need to be made. Ruthless Scott Ruthven scored four times for Park Steels as they went five up leaving Ilkeston in a hopeless position and facing a heavy home defeat. The first half saw Ilkeston  taken apart by Stocksbridge with the visitors looking capable of scoring at will and hitting three goals in a devastating six minute spell.
Both sides had chances early on. Kieran Fenton headed over from a corner for Ilkeston and Luke Mangham’s deflected effort for Stocksbridge almost found the net. Jamie Walker had a shot tipped over before Ruthven scored his first goal on 19 minutes, a fine header from Mangham’s precise cross. Two minutes later it was 2-0 when Durrant allowed a speculative long shot from Josh Nodder to slip through his gloves. Ruthven scored again four minutes later with another header from a left side cross. Ilkeston tried to find a way back but nearly conceded again when Lewis Whitham somehow lifted his shot over from three yards out. A fourth goal did come on 40 minutes when Ruthven’s shot took a wicked deflection to beat Durrant and put the lid on a disastrous first half for the Robins.
Within three minutes of the restart Ruthven struck again to make it 5-0. At this point Ilkeston finally started to rally but were up against Park Steels keeper Edward Hall who was in superb form. He was eventually beaten on 64 minutes when Tom Marshall scored from the spot after Michael Trench had handled. Ilkeston continued to push forward with Rod Orlando-Young being the main creator and he was rewarded with an excellent goal in the final ten minutes after bursting down the right wing, cutting inside and firing past Hall. Ilkeston pressed hard for a third which would have brought more respectability to the scoreline but Hall spectacularly denied Mason Lee with a close range block and then Orlando-Young, pushing his shot round the post at full stretch.

Re: Ilkeston Town v Stocksbridge Park Steels

Exemplary support from the fans today. Ilkeston's supporters showed why they are the envy of every non-league clubs in this area.  The support was unwavering even when the goals were flying in against us.
Even in adversity the fans behind the goal never stopped trying to lift the team.
Other teams will have seen supporters showing their disappointment when things go wrong. That doesn't happen behind the goal at Ilkeston.

Re: Ilkeston Town v Stocksbridge Park Steels

Spoke to the Stocksbridge officials after the game. They said it was one of their best performances, a day when things went right for them. There was no gloating just comments like "Just occasionally you get days like today." Nice people who envied our level of support.

Re: Ilkeston Town v Stocksbridge Park Steels

Park Steels Match Report :
RUTHVEN HAT-TRICK SEALS STEELS VICTORY
Ilkeston Town F.C. 2 Stocksbridge Park Steels 5
The Steels impressive league form continued yesterday, at Ilkeston Town, with a clinical destruction of one of the leagues big guns. The Steels fast and furious pace along with sharp crisp passing, was breaking through the home defence with ease, and on 19 minutes after several earlier chances, a fine move was finished in style as Scott Ruthven headed past the home keeper. Almost immediately from the kick off the hard working midfield broke down another home attack, and sent Josh Nodder clear with a defence splitting pass for him to smash in the second goal.    It then looked like the flood gates were going to open, Ilkeston had little to offer and on 25 minutes Scott Ruthven was on target again to make it 3-0. The home side decided to make some early changes, but wth no effect, and on 40 minutes Scott Ruthven completed his hat trick. HT 0-4 The second half started in similar fashion with the home side looking dejected and the home supporters trying desperately to lift their side, which if anything spurred on The Steels, and with the front 3 of Nodder, Mangham and 18 year old Whitham, who ran the home captain Marshall ragged, it took only 4 minutes for Ruthven to score the 5th. But the game was far from over, and from another swift counter attack, centre back Reece Fielding, weaved his way through several defenders, before being taken out by Robertson, the referee waved play on and a long clearence to the home attack, and from the resulting corner, a penalty was conceded from which Marshall hit the underside of the bar and scored on 64 minutes. Steels keeper Ed Hall was again in fine form, with 3 top class saves, and it was on 84 minutes that the home side netted a second goal. Man of the Match Scott Ruthven for the goals, but the whole team played a massive part, WELL DONE FT 2-5
Thank you Ilkeston for your Hospitality. The wins moves us back up the table, and only 3 points behind next Saturdays visitors Table Topping Carlton Town, come and cheer the lads on.
