Ilkeston v Sutton Coldfield

After five matches without a win, the game against Sutton Coldfield is now of huge significance. Sutton have won their last two league matches against Newcastle and Wisbech so it won't be easy. It will be interesting to see what sort of team Martin Carruthers picks after his first match in charge at Kidsgrove which didn't end well.

Re: Ilkeston v Sutton Coldfield

If Jamie Walker gets picked according to our records it will be his 100th start for the club. Now I've said that he's bound to be injured, dropped or recalled by Basford!! Ive played it safe by not putting him on the front cover of the programme as it is usually the kiss of death to a flyers career at Ilson. Hopefully Reco Fyfe is relatively safe. In the last prog I had Shaun Harrod on the cover and Orlando-Young as centrefold! Where are they now? Fans are already forgetting who they are. Spooky the Prog Hex!

Re: Ilkeston v Sutton Coldfield

There should be a full schedule of matches in our league today:

Carlton Town  v  Leek Town
Chasetown  v  Stamford
Cleethorpes Town  v  Belper Town
Frickley Athletic  v  Market Drayton Town

Ilkeston Town  v  Sutton Coldfield Town
Kidsgrove Athletic  v  Sheffield FC
Lincoln United  v  Glossop North End
Loughborough Dynamo  v  Wisbech Town
Stocksbridge Park Steels  v  Newcastle Town
Worksop Town  v  Spalding United

A win for Ilkeston would see them recover some ground on their promotion rivals as four of the top five play against each other. Carlton (3rd) v Leek (2nd) looks like a cracker as does Cleethorpes (4th) v Belper (5th).

I'm feeling much more optimistic following the signing of Kieran Wells. Hopefully this will be a first win for Martin Carruthers and the start of the winning run which we need to put together to get us into the play offs.  I'm going for a 4-1 win with Wells, Lambert, Walker and Fyfe scoring.

Ilkeston piling up the corners but no breakthrough yet. Sutton are looking better than their league position indicates. Good Ilkeston attacking move doesn't quite come off. McDonald shot blocked. Chance for Sutton but its over the bar.         0-0        40 minutes

Re: Ilkeston v Sutton Coldfield

It was a hard fought win against a decent Sutton Coldfield side who put us under a lot of pressure after we had gone ahead. We defended with a great determination not to concede and the whole defence deserve credit. Special mention for Dean Freeman who has been out of favour recently. He gave a polished performance and scored the important first goal. As for Kieran Wells, an excellent debut full of effort and skill and topped it off with the goal that made the game safe.

Re: Ilkeston v Sutton Coldfield

Ilkeston Town  2  Sutton Coldfield T  0
Ilkeston ended their five game winless run with a hard fought victory over Sutton Coldfield Town. Dean Freeman gave Ilkeston a second half lead but they then had to defend as Sutton pressed hard for a leveller. Debutant Kieran Wells made sure of the win with a second Ilkeston goal four minutes from time.Ilkeston started brightly and Freeman was close with a header in the first minute. Ross Durrant was then forced into an excellent save as Sutton retaliated. Ilkeston forced a series of corners but without seriously testing Lewis Gwilliams the Sutton keeper. A shot by Daniel Racchi was deflected wide before the visitors found the net on 25 minutes only for it to be ruled out. Five minutes later Gwilliams saved bravely at the feet of Massiah McDonald and the same player then had a shot blocked by a defender. There was a chance for Sutton  before half time but Isai Marselia fired over and the first half  ended goalless. The second half started with Ilkeston on top and they finally got the break through goal on 58 minutes when Freeman headed in at the far post. The goal sparked a determined reaction from Sutton and almost immediately Kieran Fenton had to  rescue Ilkeston with a saving tackle followed by Chris Robertson blocking another goal bound shot. Ilkeston were forced to withstand to some sustained pressure as Sutton looked for an equaliser but on 86 minutes Kieran Wells capped an excellent debut with a spectacular finish to make the game safe. Durrant had to save again in the dying moments but it was a welcome clean sheet for Ilkeston following two defeats in which nine goals were conceded.

Re: Ilkeston v Sutton Coldfield

Sutton Coldfield's match report :

MATCH REPORT - ILKESTON TOWN 2 - 0 SCTFC      BY ALEXANDER MOLONEY
Mark Sanders reports as Sutton's unbeaten run in the league comes to an end    Back to league action today with another tough game against Ilkeston Town at the New Manor ground. Toothy made one change bringing new boy Ryan Moore into the side in place of Christophorou. It was a nice sunny afternoon in Ilkeston where the fans were buoyant for an entertaining game. Sutton started brightly and were soon on the attack with Leek on the wing, playing a great ball into for Martin to hit a shot straight down the middle of the goal. The keeper managed to get a foot on it to deflect for a corner. Marselia then tried his luck and beat a couple of defenders before launching a thunderous shot just wide of the post.
Reece ran wide and placed a delightful ball across the goal face, Marselia slid in but was beaten by the pace of the ball.
Shaw had a shot deflected at the near post, then a one two between Gibson and George nearly saw George grab his goal, but for a diving save from the Ilkeston goalkeeper.
Sutton were playing well and having the better of the chances.
Francis put Marselia through, who ran into the box and bundled the ball into the net, only to have it ruled out for offside.Sutton had a great first half and stood up to anything that Ilkeston had to offer.
The second half started slowly and Leek was injured early on and had to be substituted for Ganley.
Shaw ran through the centre of the park, but his final shot was wide of the post.
58 minutes in, and Sutton were caught out from poor defending from a corner. An easy header at the back post from Freeman made it 1-0 to Ilkeston.
Martin tried to get Sutton back into the game with a shot from distance, but the keeper dived to keep the Royals out.
Toothy took Francis off to give Okoro a run out.Moore delivered a ball into the box from a free kick, Mutton tried an overhead kick, but the effort went just wide of the post.
A Shaw free kick saw Mutton go close with a header, but again it was off target. Romario was brought on to replace Marselia who had worked really hard this afternoon without getting any luck on his side.
A long ball over the top had Gibson latch onto it, but his shot was straight onto the keeper and in the end an easy save. 86 minutes in and despite all Suttons efforts, they conceded a late second when a ball was chipped over the head of Gwilliams by Wells 2-0 Ilkeston.
Sutton had the better of the first half and should really have taken their chances to go into the lead. The second half never really got going for the men in blue, and the goal just killed them off. Unfortunately, little came forward from them after that. It was a harsh result for the lads who deserved a draw after plenty of hard work on the day, but well done to Ilkeston and good luck to them going forward.
