A look at our league table at the turn of the year : 1st Jan 2020 (Top ten)
P W D L F A PTS
1 Leek 18 14 3 1 43 12 45
2 Stamford 19 13 4 2 50 20 43
3 Cleethorpes 19 11 4 4 46 31 37
4 Belper 16 10 4 2 30 18 34
5 Frickley 21 10 2 9 37 37 32
6 Carlton 17 9 4 4 27 20 31
7 Ilkeston 22 8 6 8 40 36 30
8 Stocksbridge 19 8 4 7 35 34 28
9 Kidsgrove 16 8 3 5 29 18 27
10 Sheffield 19 7 5 7 38 37 26
The automatic promotion place looks like going to either Leek or Stamford. Two of the other play off places look likely to be taken by Cleethorpes and Belper. So there is probably only one playoff place up for grabs. Currently in 5th position is Frickley but Carlton are better placed with games in hand. Outsiders are Kidsgrove, Stocksbridge, Sheffield and possibly Ilkeston.
Focus on Frickley
Frickley are currently the form team. They have moved up to 5th in the league table.
Their record is ; P 21 W 10 D 2 L 9 GF 37 GA 37 Points 22 and that is after losing their first six matches. (On 10th September 2019, Frickley were bottom with no points)
Their record over the last 15 matches is P 15 W 10 D 2 L 3 Points 32

Tomorrow's match against high flying Stamford gives Ilkeston a final chance to show if they are good enough to make a late challenge to get into the playoffs. Another defeat would surely end their chances but a win would give players and fans a massive boost of optimism. You're as good as your last result so I'm really hoping tomorrow we turn the corner and pull off a landmark victory which sets us on a winning run.

Well, we lost again and were outplayed by a very good side. We now have to accept that barring a miraculous run of wins we aren't going to make the playoffs. We're shipping too many goals and relying solely on Kieran Wells up front. Personally I would give Kole Lambert a run in the team as I thought he did alright when he came on against Stamford. Of the four matches against the top sides the most disappointing was the Carlton match which I felt was winnable.
After five games without a win we now have a chance to end that run at Spalding who have two points less than us with a game in hand. How we need a win!
In the league last season we won 16 of our 19 home matches. This year we have won only 5 out of 13 so far.
