Mark Clifford said the Club had been in contact with Joe Maguire for the last month. The fact that Maguire has been given a contract till the end of next season shows that Martin Carruthers thinks he is the man to be our defensive rock and one the younger players can learn from. We need players who are going to enable us to push for promotion next season and maybe this is why we have released a few players recently who It can be argued have not produced the sort of consistency that ensured their futures at the Club. Between now and the end of the season we should see a better team emerge and this is the start.

This is an abbreviated piece from the Ilkeston Advertiser after Ilkeston FC was wound up
The man with the most appearances for Ilkeston FC since their 2010 reformation says the club will always have a special place in his heart.
Joe Maguire was originally recruited by Kevin Wilson after his release from Scunthorpe United in 2010, shortly before the demise of the old Ilkeston Town. He went on to win two Player of the Year awards and wear the captain’s armband, clocking up around 170 appearances. Maguire still feels an affinity with the club, having begun his non-league career with the Robins. It was a platform for him, from which he made the leap to the National League North with Nuneaton Town and then Boston United. “It will always be a club in my heart, a club I respect because they gave me a good chance when I was younger.
