Saturday 29th August 2020
Newark 4 Ilkeston Town 0
Three goals in the final 16 minutes emphasised the difference between the two sides at a wet and windy Newark. The hosts were far more aggressive and clinical whereas Ilkeston struggled to create worthwhile chances. Ilkeston faced a fierce wind in the first half but were holding their own until James Reid was clattered by heavy challenge which left him in a lot of discomfort. The Newark culprit was fortunate only to see yellow but seven minutes later they took the lead. The ball was crossed from the left and ex-Ilkeston player Kevin Bastos leapt to head in from close range on 31 minutes. The goal boosted Newark and Alex Render did well to block a possible second Newark goal before half time. With the wind behind them in the second half Ilkeston must have fancied their chances but they still failed to produce enough real scoring opportunities. On 54 minutes Ollie Brown-Hill showed great skill in the box but then lifted his shot over the bar. Alex Troke then had a decent effort saved before Newark went down the other end and doubled their lead on 74 minutes. Ilkeston’s players looked crestfallen and conceded another five minutes later. There was then a late rally featuring a terrific Nat Watson volley which was worth a goal followed by Zak Goodson being felled in the penalty area. It looked like a certain spot kick but the referee didn’t agree. To top off a forgettable afternoon Newark got a fourth goal just before time.

Right do I moan or do just leave it .....mmmmmm sod it I will moan I am good at that. Do we have a defending coach ? Only asking coz we have let in nine goals in two games . Yes I know they are only friendlies BUT come on being thrashed doesn't look good.
We will know more better when we play Grantham then the County game .
I haven't been to any of the games coz of being so busy working at home . But like I said letting in nine goals in two games .. ....well I have said enough .
