Tue 1st Sep Live updates from Ilkeston v Grantham & Radford v Shepshed

It's our first home pre-season friendly against our Lincolnshire friends, Grantham Town. We've both had bad results recently. Ilkeston have to bounce back from a 4-0 reverse at Newark and Grantham need to recover from the embarrassment of their abandoned match at Stamford.

We'll also be posting score updates from the FA Cup match between Radford and Shepshed Dynamo. The winners will be Ilkeston's opponents at the NMG in the next round on Saturday 12th September.

Re: Tue 1st Sep Live updates from Ilkeston v Grantham & Radford v Shepshed

Will be on twitter looking for the scores like i have for the other friendlies because i have loads of work to do at home ... Hate to say it but it will be a good test against Grantham but the main result is the for me will be the Shepshed one . I really do hope we get them in the next round mainly because their fans are one of the best group of fans in non league football .

Re: Tue 1st Sep Live updates from Ilkeston v Grantham & Radford v Shepshed

The tempo has increased and it's getting lively as Marshall is floored.  The ref is trying to calm the players down speaking to several of them and booking Grantham's Abbott.  Another Ilkeston player badly fouled and there's now a confrontation involving several players.  Grantham's Hollingsworth is Sent off.        0-0          35 minutes

Re: Tue 1st Sep Live updates from Ilkeston v Grantham & Radford v Shepshed

Obviously Grantham haven't learnt their lesson. To be honest I blame their manager . What the hell does say to his players before they go. " Go on guys just kick the crap out of them "

Re: Tue 1st Sep Live updates from Ilkeston v Grantham & Radford v Shepshed

I'd heard a lot of good things about Ricco Spencer and last night he delivered.
Grantham were certainly competitive and it proved to be a good test. On another night we would have won.
That's three consecutive defeats but we were much better last night. The team are starting to gel and Joe Maguire will  make a difference
James Reid was influential and dictated play last night, Nat Watson looks better every game, Ollie Brown-Hill is quality and Alex Troke will score goals
Billy Bennett looks a contender for captain
Some good performances by the younger players. Defender, Joe Wilson looks very promising.

Re: Tue 1st Sep Live updates from Ilkeston v Grantham & Radford v Shepshed

 Tuesday 1st September 2020
Ilkeston Town  0  Grantham Town  1
Ilkeston gave match time to several of their highly rated younger players in their first home pre-season game and despite being beaten it was a praiseworthy team performance. It was a very competitive friendly with the feisty visitors having a player sent off but a 49th minute goal by Nathan Dyer proved to be the winner. Grantham started strongly but Ilkeston had the first opportunity. On 10 minutes Jan Budtz saved Alex Troke’s header and he was then called into action saving James Reid’s free kick. On 18 minutes Nat Watson went down under challenge in the Grantham area but the referee said no penalty. This was followed by a Reid free kick which was deflected wide. The game was starting to get lively culminating in Grantham’s Michael Hollingsworth being shown a red card. With a man advantage Ilkeston began to get on top but the first half ended goalless.
Four minutes after the restart Grantham were ahead with Dyer’s fine strike from 12 yards out. Ilkeston tried desperately to find an equaliser but the Gingerbreads were defending with great determination. There was some excellent approach work as Ilkeston cranked up the pressure but they were repeatedly repulsed by Grantham’s uncompromising defence. On the hour good work by Troke produced a chance for Zak Goodson but he was denied by an excellent save. Ollie Brown-Hill came closest to levelling when his thunderous shot rattled the crossbar with Budtz beaten. Five minutes from time Grantham did what Ilkeston couldn’t do when they found the net but the effort was cancelled by an offside flag. Ilkeston kept pushing to the end and Troke had a late header saved before they ran out of time.
