Match Report :
FA Youth Cup - 2nd Qualifying Round
Ilkeston Town u18s 2 Aylestone Park u18s 3
Despite twice being ahead Ilkeston, bowed out of the FA Youth Cup after conceding a goal 12 minutes from time. Ilkeston started well and the first opportunity fell to Devin McGuane who fired wide. Connor Lloyd volleyed wide following a corner and Kaaron Brown brought a good save from the Aylestone Park keeper as Ilkeston dominated the early stages. The junior Robins deservedly took the lead through Tom York on 24 minutes and Ilkeston continued make chances. McGuane produced a fine run and shot which was saved, then on 38 minutes Park surprised Ilkeston with a stunning equaliser. Ilkeston regained the lead just before half time with a powerful header by Edwin Anani.
Park came out for the second half with much more determination. On 56 minutes an Aylestone player saw Ilkeston keeper Bartley off his line and tried to lob him but Bartley got back to save. The Aylestone keeper saved bravely at the feet of Kaaron Brown and an Aylestone shot was just too high as both sides looked for the next goal. Aylestone’s much improved second half performance was rewarded with an equaliser on 64 minutes. The goal lifted them and after looking second best for most of the game they looked capable of stealing victory. Ilkeston tried hard to regain the initiative but they were hit by a brilliant third Aylestone goal on 78 minutes. Ilkeston pushed for the equaliser they felt they deserved and several times they went close to finding the goal which would have given them a penalty shootout. But it wasn’t to be. Aylestone survived all that was thrown at them including a strong Ilkeston penalty shout on 88 minutes before they, themselves, missed a chance to wrap the game up.
