Alliance Leagues committee meet Tuesday

The Alliance Committee will meet on Tuesday morning to discuss the season. Their recommendations, along with that of the Leagues Committee, will then need to be ratified by the FA Council. The Prime Minister's ‘roadmap’ announcement could limit some of the options available.

As we await the Northern Premier League’s recommendations on the 2020-21 season, these are my thoughts:

There is every chance that any decision will be delayed. The longer we wait for a decision, the more likely it is that the season be declared null and void.
There is talk of extending the season through to June so if we can restart by April, there is a chance of an NPL reduced fixture competition. Three months in warmer weather is enough time for teams in our league to play each other once (or twice if split into two divisions). It would mean playing twice a week but that normally happens anyway after bad weather postponements.
If it is decided that crowds cannot return then there will be no football until next season at the earliest.
If crowds are allowed but the NPL doesn’t restart, then Ilkeston have a second chance of playing again in the Tommy Brookbanks Tournament.
The next consideration for the NPL is whether the planned Step 4 reorganisation goes ahead or is delayed for another season.

The BBC understands that organised adult & youth sport, including grassroots football, could return from March 29th. Boris Johnson will share his finalised roadmap with ministers later today. He will then lead a news conference at 7pm.  http://bbc.co.uk/news/uk-56148160

In order for competitive non-league football to be financially viable, fans need to return & ideally clubhouses open. The new rules on fans & hospitality are not yet clear. These will be significant obstacles for any possible restart of football at Steps 3-6.
