National League North and South Promotion Proposal

A group of Step 2 clubs have submitted plans for a combined division to the National League, asking for its support. They propose that each side that wishes to enter play each other once, resulting in 2 promotions (1 automatic & 1 via playoffs).

Eastbourne Borough chairman, David Blackmore, speaking about proposals to form a new mini-league at Step 2: "We're hopeful. We've all come up with a format that we've put forward. We think it's palatable for everybody."
So this is how I see it :
A group of clubs (we don’t know how many) from the National League North and the National League South have come up with a plan to allow promotion to Step 1 this season.
They have proposed operating a mini league made up of clubs from both divisions who wish to take part.
They play each other once and the team with the most points is promoted along with the winner of the playoffs.
Presumably only the strongest teams who want promotion will take part and the less ambitious teams will opt out.
As this mini league will contain clubs from both the North and the South there will be greatly increased travelling costs so with no income from fans, presumably only the most aspiring teams keen to get into Step 1 elite football will enter.
Having said that, quite a few teams must have expressed an interest for them to have decided to play each other once rather than twice.
The plan needs National League approval.

A detailed proposal for a combined Step 2 mini-league has been submitted to the FA. The plan will be considered by the FA Alliance Committee who meet tomorrow. Any decision would then require ratification from the FA Council.

The FA Alliance Committee has REJECTED the proposal for a Step 2 mini-league. The Committee has supported the outcome of the original resolution vote to continue at Step 1 & make Step 2 null & void (with no promotions/relegations). The decision will require FA Council approval.

No relegation from Step 1
Clubs start with their PPG average multiplied by 15
All clubs start with at least 20pts
All clubs start with 0 goal difference

The FA’s Alliance Committee met today, to discuss the alternative proposal to continue the season at Step 2.The proposal was rejected out of hand and the results of the earlier votes on resolutions which resulted in the season being declared null and void, have been ratified.We are extremely disappointed that the season is now officially over and equally disappointed that the result was not relayed direct to the clubs by the National League, after so much time and effort had been invested in the alternative proposal.We will be communicating with all season ticket holders next week to discuss the options now available.Next season seems such a long way off but with the gradual easing of lockdown, we will be able to welcome more and more people back to Work Princes Park over the coming months culminating in a new season starting in July and August and a renewed push for promotion to the National Division.
