Marine Reveal 3G Pitch Plans

By James Gordon

Marine have submitted a planning application to install a 3G pitch at their Marine Travel Arena home.It comes off the back of their historic FA Cup run, which saw Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur knock them out of the competition in the third round, with more than £300,000 raised.

The club is now looking to build on its community involvement - which includes football coaching in schools, walking football, girls football, physical and mental health partnerships and support senior citizens during the pandemic - by installing a 3G pitch at the heart of the community in Crosby.

In addition to the pitch modernisation they will also be widening the entrance to the car park; creating a community garden; and removing the existing unsightly metal fencing on the frontage to College Road. Electric vehicle charging and cycle parking will also be installed with additional disabled parking and two free parking bays.

There are currently no full size enclosed floodlit 3G pitches in Crosby. The new pitch will give that facility to the community, and the club will be linking with our partner community groups for them to use on an affordable basis.
As part of the planning consultation process, the club has carried out a letter drop to approximately 400 residents and businesses within the vicinity of the ground. This is to acknowledge the significant increase in usage, which will see the pitch used between 9am and 10pm with lights to go off by 10.15pm at the latest; as well as assurances that noise will be kept to a minimum.

A club spokesperson added: “The benefits in getting people active, and improving physical, social and mental health are immense and will be available to all within the community. “The club appreciates that the stadium is in a residential area and the usage will increase after the installation of the pitch should planning be granted. “The club do however feel that the minimal effect of this will be far outweighed by having a fantastic new pitch within a short walk that will be a much needed facility for all.”

Mickleover Ground Improvements Ready For Kick Off

By James Gordon

  •

After a delay of a year due to the Covid Lockdown, work will be starting on Mickleover FC’s artificial pitch in early April.   Chesterfield firm Pugh-Lewis will be undertaking the installation, which along with other planned ground improvements should be complete by Mid July.  Chairman Don Amott said: “The whole project is costing us £750,000, but we have already started taking bookings to use it as £120 per hour peak and £80 per hour off-peak.“But we have to have a fund to not only pay for it, but to fund its upkeep too.”

The pitch is also being sited nearer the main road, which means the grandstand is being moved too.

“We need to thank Mike Robinson of Robinson Steel, they are taking the stand down, re-galvanising and reassembling free of charge for us, with 250 new seats in red,” Don added.

There will also be new LED floodlights and further phases are also planned for the future to include new changing rooms and a new clubhouse.  Having finished the abandoned season top of the Northern Premier League, next season’s aspirations are looking good both on and off the pitch. Don also highlighted the fact that the club have sincere gratitude to the owner of the land the ground is sited on, Lady Chichester, a member of the Chandos-Pole family of Radbourne Hall.

During the next few months, the club plans to keep fans updated with progress with regular pictures via their online channels.
