When Spennymoor and Ilkeston went in different directions

.

On 6th April  2017, I remember travelling up to Spennymoor where Ilkeston lost by 3-0 in the NPL Premier Division (Step 3).

Ilkeston were relegated at the end of the season with 27 points from 46 matches and following Administration were demoted to Step 6.

The Spennymoor match was a Thursday night game, one of 3 matches played in 5 days.

Tue   4 April  2017    Buxton (away)            lost 0-2
Thur 6 April  2017    Spennymoor (away)    lost 0-3
Sat   8 April  2017    Stourbridge (home)     lost 1-2

By contrast, Spennymoor finished 2nd with 87 points and were promoted to the National League North (Step 2) where they remain today.

Since their promotion, Spennymoor finished :
       8th in 2017-18
       4th in 2018-19
       2019-20 (null & void)
       2020-21 (null & void)

Since re-formation as Ilkeston Town, we have twice been promoted and are now just one step below where we were in season 2016-17.

2017-18 Midland League Div One (Step 6)     Finished 2nd and promoted to Step5
2018-19 Midland League Premier (Step 5)      Finished 1st and promoted to Step 4
2019-20 Northern Prem SE Division (Step 4)  Null & void
2020-21 Northern Prem SE Division (Step 4)  Season curtailed
