Glossop manager resigns

PETE BAND DEPARTS GNE
BY CHRIS HAUGHTON

Manager Pete Band departs GNE for hometown club

It is with regret that Glossop North End wishes to announce that on Thursday afternoon the club accepted the resignation of Pete Band from his position as Manager at GNE. Pete leaves The Amdec Forklift Stadium to team up in the newly reformed Macclesfield FC setup as assistant manager to player / manager, Danny Whitaker, as they take on their inaugural season in the NWCFL, after being wound up in the High Court in September and subsequently expelled from the National League.

Pete was approached by his hometown club to join the set up at the Leasing.com Stadium, and with a heavy heart, has decided to join them. Peter Band joined Glossop in October 2018, originally working with Lloyd Morrison prior to Lloyd's departure at the start of last season. Together they moved the club clear of relegation worries in their first season before the clubs movement into the NPL South East Division. In total across both his tenure with Lloyd Morrison, and as sole manager, Pete managed 86 competitive GNE fixtures. Despite this, he never fulfilled a full season with the club due to recent COVID lockdown’s and league stoppages.

Pete was not only a manager but a good friend too, and leaves with the best wishes of everyone at the club. Pete, who admittedly eats, sleeps and breathes football, has put his heart and soul into GNE since his appointment, but he feels the time has come to take a step in a different direction.

He finished as a player for Mossley in August 2011 and made 42 appearances for the Lilywhites in the 2011/12 season. As a player, Peter was late into the semi pro game having played for Cheshire amateurs Bollington Athletic as well as Mossley, Hyde United, Altrincham and Northwich Vics in the Football Conference. Pete wishes to give his heartfelt thanks to all official’s, volunteers, supporters and players at Glossop North End for their contribution to his all enjoyable experience during his time at the club. Glossop North End would like to put on record their sincere thanks to Pete for his time and efforts at the club since his arrival in October 2018. It should be said that Pete leaves on more than good terms with everyone here at GNE, we wish him all the best for the future.
