Some cracking matches in the opening week fixtures
Sat 14th August 2021
NPL Midlands Division
Bedworth United v Corby Town
Belper Town v Histon
Cambridge City v Halesowen Town
Daventry Town v Chasetown
Shepshed Dynamo v Carlton Town
Spalding United v Loughborough Dynamo
Sporting Khalsa v Yaxley
Stamford v Ilkeston Town
Sutton Coldfield Town v Soham Town Rangers
Wisbech Town v Coleshill Town
Ilkeston could not have a tougher opening game, but hey we've got to go to Stamford some time. It's a six pointer and could be an opening day defeat.
Bedworth and Corby will be close
Don't know much about Histon but I expect Belper to win
Cambridge and Halesowen could go either way
Chasetown could just edge it at Daventry
I think Carlton may just be too good for Shepshed
Spalding and Loughborough looks like a real cracker with Spalding just taking the points
Good chance for Sporting Khalsa to make a winning start against Yaxley
Sutton Coldfield and Soham Town Rangers could be another draw
Wisbech could be surprise early league leaders by beating Coleshill.
Followed by the first midweek fixtures
Mon 16th July
Coleshill Town v Cambridge City
Tue 17th July
Carlton v Bedworth
Chasetown v Belper
Halesowen v Shepshed
Histon v Daventry
Ilkeston v Sporting Khalsa
Loughborough D v Sutton Coldfield
Soham Town Rangers v Stamford
Yaxley v Spalding United
Wed 18th July
Corby v Wisbech
I'm expecting Cambridge to win at Coleshill
We'll see how strong Bedworth United are in this match but I take Carlton to win
Chasetown just might surprise fancied Belper by holding them to a draw
Shepshed are about to get a taste of what they're up against this season. Halesowen are likely to be one of the most consistent home sides and should win this one.
Histon could collect their first points against Daventry
Ilkeston will expect to kick start their campaign and take maximum points agains promoted Sporting Khalsa
Loughborough Dynamo will be banking on a win against Sutton Coldfield
Stamford's journey to the ground of Soham Town Rangers will not be as long as for some other teams and they'll not be expecting to slip up.
Spalding United should be too strong for Yaxley
I expect Wisbech to be better than last season but anything other than a defeat at Corby would be a major surprise

At first I thought it wouldn't matter if we lose at Stamford. It's only the first match and there's plenty of time to recover. On reflection, with COVID cases becoming rampant again there's more than a possibility that the season could once again be curtailed. If that happens then "points per game" from the matches played could be important in deciding promotion and relegation. With that in mind, every game has to be treated like a ''must win" match because every point will be vital. It's important that we beat our main rivals or at least not lose to them.

Stamford Pre-season Friendly results
Jul 7 Harrowby (A) draw 2-2
Jul 10 Cleethorpes (A) draw 1-1
Jul 13 Peterborough united (H) lost 0-4
Jul17 Northampton Town (H) won 2-1
Jul 20 Anstey Nomads (H) lost 1-2
Jul 22 Kettering Town (H) lost 1-3
Stamford have won only one of their four home friendlies to date. Admittedly against some tough opposition but it shows that they can be beaten. Kettering of the National League North scored two late goals to sink them last night. The most surprising result was the 2-1 defeat against Step 5 Anstey Nomads but It's quite possible that they were not at full strength in some of the matches.

If we did manage to sign Irvine I think he’d be a starter; Fenton if we don’t. I’d start with Reid. And where’s Maguire? If the season opener is only 18 days away shouldn’t he be playing football by now?
Durrant
Frances Maguire Irvine Bennett
Reid Wakefield Verma
Goodson Troke Carvell
