Our next pre-season friendly is against Long Eaton United on our new 4G pitch at the New Manor Ground. You want to be there for this one. The match is part of the TownFest day with entertainment before and after the match. Kick off time for the big match is 2 15pm. Before that there is a Fans v Ilkeston Legends game and after the match there will be music provided by three bands.
This is Ilkeston's sixth pre season friendly. The previous five, all played away from home, have produced 3 wins and 2 draws. Tomorrow's match against local rivals Long Eaton, will be keenly fought with the visitors managed by ex Ilkeston coaches Ian Deakin and Craig Swinscoe and the team containing several ex-Ilkeston players.
Be there for the first ever match on the new pitch. If you've not been down since last season, prepare to be amazed at the transformation.
There will be updates as usual tomorrow and please note that WhiteBall have plans for delivering improved match coverage when the season proper commences on 14th August.

Sat 31st July 2021 Pre-season Friendly
ILKESTON TOWN 4 LONG EATON UNITED 3
Ilkeston’s first match on their new state of the art 4G pitch did not start well but after a forgettable opening 20 minutes they dragged themselves back into the game and eventually triumphed by 4-3. Defensive errors gifted Long Eaton two goals and the Blues also had two goals disallowed as they dominated the first half. Both teams made changes for the second half and Ilkeston produced a spectacular turnaround with Ramaye Campbell scoring twice.
Long Eaton should have gone ahead as early as the third minute when Ross Durrant did well to save and the follow up shot was somehow fired over from two yards out. On 17 minutes James Gale latched on to a failed clearance to put the visitors ahead and two minutes later they doubled their lead courtesy of another defensive error with ex-Robin Jamie Walker finishing well. On the half hour Ilkeston pulled one back when Joe Maguire headed home Charlie Wakefield’s precise cross but Long Eaton were good value for their half time lead.
The second half started well for Ilkeston as Campbell equalised just three minutes in. The same player then put Ilkeston ahead on 59 minutes with a fine finish from Wakefield’s pass. Ilkeston were now on top and Alex Troke blasted in an unstoppable fourth goal on 70 minutes. Five minutes later Campbell was close to completing a hat-trick but was denied by keeper Sam Wilson. In the closing minutes, Micah Jebbison scored an excellent solo goal for Long Eaton then Zak Goodson almost restored Ilkeston’s two goal advantage with a long range lob after seeing Wilson off his line.

LE looked more up for it initially I thought and were undoubtedly the better side first half
Three at the back versus three forwards is always tricky and yesterday was no different. The formation change from 343 to 352 at 0 2 helped and going to 442 at half time helped bring about the change in fortunes
All three goals conceded came from our possession. A weak piece of defending for the third and two sloppy passes for the first two. This will concern management I’m sure but pre season is a time for experimentation
Going forward we look good though and maybe it will be a roller coaster season with more 4 3s the 0 0s
For me the 11 that started would have been the one I’d go with in the same shape. But yesterday will raise questions. Do we go 442? Charlie Marzano did really well for me second half and must be knocking on the door
Two more games versus increasingly good opposition to go and an unbeaten pre season still. Much to be optimistic about
Ground looks magnificent. Great to have fans back. Respect to the owners for delivering on their promises after so many false dawns
I was sitting with Ross’ wife yesterday commenting how far the club has come since the days of Mr Harrop’s generator for sure! Onward & upward

I agree Charlie Marzano did well. I thought he also did well against Newark. He tends to play well in a quiet way. He needs to burst on to the scene with a dominant eye catching perfomance. Maybe he lacks a bit of confidence.
Thought Joe Maguire was immense yesterday. He's only featured in two pre-season matches and he's slotted straight in.
Good to see Remaye Campbell score twice and go so close to a hat-trick.
Also happy to see Alex Troke continue his scoring form. He’s now scored in each of his last four matches.

The squad of 20 ish is very good. Time will tell if the first 11 is good enough
We’ll be around the play offs IMO. It’s a strong league this season. Stamford will obviously be up there. As far as the unknowns go I’m backing Halesowen to go well and Cambridge could well feature also
Really looking forward to the season. The NMG will see some really big crowds I think. It’s an absolutely magnificent facility
