    Pre season form of each club in our League

    I appreciate that too much can’t be read into pre season results. But for what it’s worth, here are the results for each club in our league that I have found. It’s possible that i’ve missed some.   

    Bedworth United

    Staveley have had two good results against teams in our league! We may have avoid them in the Derbyshire Senior Cup!!

    Having spent some time compiling the pre-season results for each club, a few people have told me that these results are meaningless. I accept that the results don't matter but certain conclusions can be made. Most teams start their pre-season with 'easy' matches which get progressively more testing until the final game which is usually against higher opposition. The final matches are the ones with most meaning as the preferred team is now taking shape.

    The purpose of the exercise for me was to try to judge the strength of the teams we know little about.

    Bedworth United  - Only found five pre-season results. Significant final result was losing against Coventry Sphinx. Probably mid table.

    Cambridge City - Five of their six matches have been played away. 2 wins, 1 draw and 3 defeats but they've played against some decent opposition which suggests to me that Cambridge have a decent side.

    Coleshill Town  -  They've played 9 matches and won 6. In the previous two seasons they've performed poorly but their pre-season results make me feel that they've improved their side.

    Corby Town -  Expected to be promotion contenders. Won 2, drawn 2 and lost 2 in pre-season. One of the better supported teams. Significant result was losing 0-3 at home to Basford so maybe they're not that good. 

    Daventry Town  - Been poor over last two seasons and pre-season results indicate another struggle ahead.

    Halesowen  -  Expected to be one of the favourites for promotion. Only two defeats out of nine pre-season matches confirms that they will do well. Probably the best supported team in the league which makes them even more difficult to beat. 

    Histon  -  only found five pre-season results and all against unknown opposition. Four defeats so not looking good. Lost many of last season's players due to extra travelling in this league so have had to recruit virtually a new team.

    Soham Town Rangers -  Lost four out of six pre-season matches found so they don't look a threat.

    Spalding United  : Signed some good players making them promotion possibles. Only one defeat in six matches Significant result 2-0 won against Grimsby Town.

    Yaxley  - Could only find four results. Either they're very secretive or they don't have a media team. However two of their matches were against good opposition, Peterborough Sports ( lost 0-4) and Gainsborough Trinity (lost 1-2). The narrow Gainsborough defeat indicates they may be a reasonable side.Yaxley ended their pre-season with a creditable 2-2 at Peterborough Sports.


    Of the other teams :

    Belper : lost 1-3 to Coalville but finished pre-season on a high by drawing 2-2 with Burton Albion and beating Mickleover 4-2

    Carlton :  Pre-season form has been erratic with some poor results. Final two matches produced a 4-4 draw with Heanor and a home defeat against Frickley.

    Chasetown  :  Won five out of eight which looks promising but not against strong opposition until their final match when they got a creditable 1-1 draw with Rushall Olympic .

    Loughborough Dynamo ; Some mixed results. Significant final two results ;  2-5 home defeat against Mickleover and 4-1 win against Lincoln United.

    Shepshed Dynamo :  Promoted from Step 5 so new to this level. Last two results were goalless draw with Walsall Wood and 0-1 defeat against Runcorn Linnets.

    Sporting Khalsa  : The other club promoted from Step 5. Best pre-season results, a 1-1 draw with Stourbridge and a 4-0 win against Heanor.

    Stamford ;  Most peoples promotion favourites. Played against tough opposition pre-season. Lost 0-4 to Peterborough United but beat Nothampton Town 2-1.

    Sutton Coldfield :  Lost four out of eight pre-season games against less than top notch opposition. Not expecting them to finish in top half of table. Last result was a 1-3 loss to Alvechurch.

    Wisbech Town  :  Last season's whipping boys have had an excellent pre-season. Played 7 won 4 and drawn 3. best result, a 4-1 win at Deeping Rangers.
