Avro FC &@AvroFC
CLUB STATEMENT |
Today's game between Avro and Kidsgrove was abandoned in the 84th minute. We as a club are appalled with the behaviour of some of the fans, players and officials of Kidsgrove Athletic. We will support and co-operate with both the NPL and FA in their investigation of the incidents which occurred in the 84thminute of today's game.
Avro were leading 6-0 at the time of the event against Kidsgrove 9 men due to two players earlier being shown red cards on the field of play. The incident followed the dismissal of one of the Kidsgrove management team who wasn't on the field of play. We will await the reports of the referee and FA.
No further comment will be made from ourselves on this matter.

A scuffle broke out behind the Kidsgrove goal between fans and players

The visiting side’s keeper threw a punch at an aggressive fan

Home side Avro were cruising to victory with a 6-0 lead as the eighth-tier match entered its final ten minutes. Kidsgrove’s player-manager Tom Pope became the visitors’ third sending off of the afternoon on the sidelines when he was handed his marching orders in the 80th minute of the already testy affair. But things escalated further when a separate argument in the stands turned physical. Multiple Kidsgrove players then abandoned the field to intervene in the scuffle themselves. The scene quickly devolved into a full-on brawl behind the Kidsgrove goal, with visiting players and fans from both sides seemingly involved in the scrap. The peak of the conflict came when a fan threw a punch at a Kidsgrove player skirting between the goal and the barrier, before lashing out at the team’s goalkeeper. The goalkeeper did not hold back in his response, ducking the hand and firing back with a punch to the supporter’s face over the barrier at the end of the pitch.Avro players can then be seen swarming back and tussling with the keeper on the pitch.

Avro sit fourth in the Northern Premier League West Division, while Kidsgrove currently occupy the 12th spot.

However Kidsgrove’s No1 justifies his reaction, he would surely be fortunate to avoid any repercussions from the league after the events in the video. And one would not be surprised to see further sanctions on the players and clubs involved, especially as video of the incident continues to be shared around to a larger audience.

I saw the footage... Disgusting. Particularly as there were young children in that area.

To be honest I think we were lucky at the NMG that the events at Ilkeston did not escalate to the same at Kidsgrove!

I generally think our fans are a respectful bunch... Plenty of banter of course!
